The first day of the second test played between India and Australia went in the favour of the visitors as they toiled India bowlers who could only manage 5 wickets in 86 overs and conceded 285 runs. Before the match state was stumps, Australian batsmen Marcus North and Tim Paine were cruising briskly towards setting a huge target.

It was in the 27th over that Harbhajan Singh brought the first break for the Indian team and got Simon Katich out. Pragyan Ojha helped India get the second wicket after he trapped Shane Watson and got him caught behind.
